Crystorama asked seven interior designers about their take on what bathroom trends will be emerging in 2021. Here’s a look at our 2021 trend edit of curated looks on how you can refresh or reinvent your bathroom.

NURTURE YOUR WELLBEING

“Recently, there has been a greater awareness in recognizing the importance of nurturing our spirit’s wellbeing. Homeowners will be more mindful of how spaces are used for their individual lifestyles by creating better experiences for their bathroom rituals. Good designers have been approaching bathroom design with this method in mind for years. Together, homeowners and designers will create bathroom sanctuaries that are equally functional and aesthetically appealing.”

BLACK AS AN ACCENT

“Black in the bathroom, whether on a floor, shower pan, or wall, adds a high contrast and unexpected element in the space. Using it only in one application allows the bathroom to be bold while not completely overpowering the room, says Jessica Koltun of Jessica Koltun Home.

BE BOLD GO GOLD

“This finish comes in many forms, and even if it is not prevalent in the rest of the house, a master bathroom or powder room is a great opportunity to let your love of gold shine through. Gold can be mixed with lucite, a favorite combination of mine, or with silver or black tones; it can be a soft or a bold tone. When paired properly with your plumbing fixtures and tile, it will be an outstanding focal feature,” says designer Lauren Clement of Lauren Nicole Designs.

FANCY FLORALS

“Bathrooms are becoming more of a fanciful look, busy floral patterns but with more dramatic or masculine palettes like blacks, browns, and blues. Embracing color on cabinetry and statement lighting not just on vanity walls but also on ceilings with unique semi-flush mounts,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

STONE PATTERN PLAY

“Pattern play in stone and tile is something we are going to see happening more and more in bathrooms, mixing various materials and installing them in innovative ways. Whether laying long plank tiles side by side to create a striping effect or recreating a small wall tile pattern on the floor with larger tiles, it’s all about thinking outside the box and making your bathroom feel special. Some of these patterns can be very bold to create a wow factor, or they can be more subtle and quiet but still special! Black metal hardware, faucets, shower heads, and bath accessories are also really a strong element in today’s bathroom designs,” says designer Libby Langdon of Libby Langdon Interiors.

THE FIFTH WALL

The decorated ceiling will take center stage in 2021. “When creating a design, especially in a bathroom, don’t forget the ceiling, aka the fifth wall. This often forgotten surface can add a touch of drama or personality to a space. Use a contrast or coordinating paint color. Better yet, go bold by applying wallpaper to the ceiling for instant style,” says designer Tammy C Bolden of Bold Interior Designs, LLC.

SOAKING TUBS

“We predict that bathroom design will be all about creating a luxurious retreat, but not one that feels overly modern and sparse. As such, soaking tubs will be big this year – a designated space for relaxation and escapism,” says designer Jessica Geller of Toledo Geller.
